View Full Version : Parked domain question
Hi, I bought a joke .com and redirected it to my main website. My question is, can I choose to redirect it to a folder in the website? By example, you have chocolate.com as a main and want to park love.com on it, but not on the same page. love.com would be on chocolate.com/love. Is it possible?

You can do it with mod_rewrite using .htaccess. Sorry I don't know the exact command to do it, but google it and I'm sure you find out.

Hi,
You can only park the domain onto your main domain, so if you access parkeddomain.com/folder it will go to maindomain.com/folder.
If you wish to have a parked domain go straight to maindomain.com/folder, you should probably make it an addon domain.
So addondomain.com goes to maindomain.com/addondomain folder
And both domains can use that folder.

My account gives me 25 parked domains and 999 addon domains.
I presume I an entitled to use every one of them if I feel like, just as I am entitled to use all the drive space or bandwidth allowed by the account.
In reality I can't imagine needing all those domains, but I bought 8 domains for assorted projects.
The main domain I needed just to sign up -- I couldn't sign up without giving a domain name. One parked domain nane is a website I then moved over here and wanted the 13,000 links reported by google to keep working exactly as always.
The other domain names I may do something with or not. One domain I kept for a year before I ever used it the first time.
"Addon" and "parked" domains are software implemented and the differences are known only to the programmer. People that have used both may have learned something about the differences.
I would appreciate anybody sharing the technical details about what an "addon" has that a "parked" doesn't and vice versa. I don't want the simple explanation: I want the technical differences so I can get the most out of each.
I especially don't want to experiment to find out what is and isn't possible, since on my server the changing of parked and addon names stops the stats scripts from updating until I sent a ticket to support to get them started again. So experiments are out -- I want to understand what the differences are before I do something, and the subtle differences matter.
Thanks.
