Well, since the DNS update is almost done I guess it is time to share my little home on the web with the community :)

http://www.necrotania.com

It is a Fantasy and Science Fiction writing community. I started it way back in 2001, as a place to post my own works. Over time it evolved and got a CGI back end, forum, and guest book. A database loss later and it was reloaded using eFiction and IPB 1.3 Final.

Over time it then migrated to SMF forum, using a custom coded bridge to connect the user table of SMF and eFiction together. This provided a single login for all areas of the site.

After winning a contest I went over the a vBulletin back-end, once again with a custom bridge connecting the two scripts. This is where we are today, a looong way from my simple HTML pages way back then :).

I was with my first web host since 2001, when I first made the site. Was a bit sad to have to migrate away from them, and it was a good 6 month decision, but the heath of the site is more important than my loyalty :)

So, that is my story. Glad to be a part of the community here.

That's a nice site you have there, I'm liking intergration with the bridge to wrap everything up nicely.

Great work :) :adore: :top:

Thanks :)

The tricky part was the skin integration. While it is fairly easy to pull templates from vB to external scripts, they are usually designed to be in the vB directory, so many of the paths are messed up. I ended up setting a series of str_replace() statements in the bridge to correct them.

It adds a bit more overhead, but having a stable skin through all areas of the site is worth it :)

It does look like a very pleasantly-designed site. :c) It is just so clean.

I shall be taking notes and learning. ^_^

I love it! Except for the purple, but that's just because I don't like the color. You will have a new Troll when I get home. I'm a huge Fantasy Geek :)
