I was thinking . .. .
Do you think it would be cool to have a chatroom? This would be a more direct way to talk to other members and stuff.
If yes, I bought this really cool script that has public chats, private chats, and some other stuff.
Right now, its located at chat.urworld.org
Also, I think you can integrate it directly on the forum!
Let me know what you think . . .

I think in the future, an IRC room for Cirtex groupies could be good, I'm not so sure at the moment, the traffic we have warrants it, just being realistic.

It sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure its going to really work well. Everyone is on at different times, and people wouldn't talk much. On my laptop Ive been idling in finalgears.com chat for a few days and really havent said much. Others might really like it but im not a big fan, im more of a forumer'errr.

I was thinking more along the lines of what popular forums do (like WHT), it could double as a support channel & discussion place
I'd pop into the IRC channel to send some random /me hugs you commands :) <3
If we do have enough active users to go in then I'd say give it a shot "What's the worst that could happen?" - dr pepper. Yum.

I ended up uninstalling flashchat off my forum, it took too much bandwith, and i think its better just talking on the forum

As far as I know flashchat takes lots of bandwidth and CPU resources.

Err. Something other than IRC. It isn't extremely popular for those of us who didn't grow up using it.
Something along the lines of an integrated chat room with the vB forum would be a nice idea. Of course, it has to be monitored, maintained, and regulated.
or maybe an IRC channel but link up one of the website java applets that you can place on your website to enter as if it was a normal chatroom - for the people without irc knowledge/clients. I'm pretty n00bie to irc, took me ages working out how to connect ;).
& Yeah we'd have to try monitor as much as possible. I do like the idea though, so memebrs can relax and get/give help to each others. Aww so cosy :)

How about using script like http://www.php121.com ? Looks very nice and simple. Do not know about the CPU/server resource consumption.

Isn't that a instant messaging script (like AIM)?

My vote is "Whats the point?"
When new people see it they will think it is a support channel, and unless that is the design from the start it will turn into a mess of "Live chat support stinks" posts.
And if that is the design, an open chat room is not the best method. A one-on-one chat system would make more sense to me.
