View Full Version : Feature questions

I was referred to you by a couple of your customers, but I have a few questions:
1) I am a Java/C++ developer who has mostly been doing desktop applications. Since most Java development (and a lot of C++) is server side work, I am trying to beef up my knowledge and experience in that area. I intend to setup several Linux servers here at home for development and testing, but I would also like a live system out on the internet to deploy some simple examples of what I can do for clients and prospective employers.
I notice a number of features in your list that I need to this end. But what if I want to deploy some Java (or C++ for that matter) apps into my domain on the server?
I don't anticipate a lot of traffic so I don't think I would be using a lot of server resources, and I would be testing it on my systems first before going live (nothing is less impressive than a buggy system) - but I don't see anything in the feature list about supporting Java or C++, or allowing access to the Apache server.
About the only language you support that I would be truly interested in would be Python (maybe Perl), but I also need Java support.
2) Is mod_gzip available?
3) The number of Parked Domains allowed - I assume that is in addition to the number of non-Parked Domains which come with an account?
Thanks

1) If your going to run resource intensive scripts thats not allowed. .EXE files can be downloaded but not ran via server. Your site is only given certain amount of CPU and you donnot have access to Apache configs etc.. Only we have access to configuring etc.. apache.
2) mod_gzip is enabled.
3) Parked domains just re-direct to main site's domain
Thank you.

I would not be running resource intensive processes - mostly small processes like field validation, simple servlets that may generate sample dynamic pages from a database, stuff like that. Processes that don't require a lot of CPU time (no more so than doing the same thing in Perl or PHP), but would be a process nonetheless.
Certainly not as resource intensive as the BB or Chat software already allowed.
My current website http://home.comcast.net/~developer.dude/index.html only gets a few visitors per day, and since I would not be running a commerce site I don't believe I would have more than a couple of simultaneous sessions at most.
I would not need access to Apache configs, I would just need to be able to use the Apache Handler API via Java.
What I would be running would not be EXE files but rather JAR (and possibly WAR) files.
Domains. The multiple addon domains. These can resolve to the main sites domain. They can also resolve to a subdir of the main site's domain. If I have an addon domain, can I have the URL which appears in the address bar of the browser be that of the addon domain, and not that of the main site domain?
Thanks.[/url]

Hi.
We do have Apache Handler
http://demo.cirtexhosting.com/
You can redirect addon domains etc.. easily.
Java is enabled on server.
