Dedicated Server

My site (pimpinrigz.com) is slow loading, and videos are constantly buffering! Is this because I'm on a shared server (smiley). What whould it take to make things run smoothly. I have a sponsor for the site, and I need to step things up pretty quick. Please advise.

Hi,

If your site is receiving a large amount of traffic/completing tasks that require extra CPU resources (e.g. video conversion) it may well be using extra resources and causing slow loading as these resources are shared out with other people on your server.

I'd check your stats and if you see a significant increase in visitors around the time that your website started experiencing slow loading times then it may be wise to upgrade to a semi-dedicated/dedicated or VPS so you can have the full resources/speed your site requires.

If you are requiring something with a little more umpf, as josh said, use a Reseller, Semi Dedicated or Virtual Private Server.

Dedicated server is for something like ebay with a large ammount of hits.

Cirtex handle the semi dedicated. While HostV do the dedicated and VPS.

VPS is basically semi-dedicated hosting.

Kre8sion, like Josh said, you really need to look at your site's history in terms of visitors you see per day on average, the number of videos the site converts per day, and the rate at which your site is growing.

If it's growing quickly and you already have a few hundred active visitors per day, then I'd look towards a VPS package at HostV where the share of resources is much higher than that of shared hosting.

I'm confused as to why the semi-dedicated plans on Host-V are better than the ones at Cirtex (if they're they same company). If I choose one of those, can Cirtex migrate me over to Host-V, or is it completely independent?

The Semi-Dedicated plans at Cirtex are normal cPanel Shared hosting accounts with more CPU & RAM for you to use. The Virtual Dedicated plans are actual virtual environments where you get your own mini server, root access, etc., to do with as you please.

Yes, Cirtex can migrate your website over to Host-V. I do suggest taking a backup of your own site before they start the migration, so you'll have a backup of your files in case something unforeseen happens.

Depending on your traffic I'd consider hostv's vps plans and services, as it's pretty much a scaled down version of a dedicated plan and much cheaper than fully dedicated.

Start with that and then go fully dedicated as needed.
