Hello all I am new here.

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on the best optimization methods to achieve better rankings in the search engines. Are the old standards still the same with link popularity and anchor text playing the largest role? Do you feel relevancy is now a factor?

Google (tug forelock at mention of name :adore: ) ran a competition a while back to see who could get a totally obtuse phrase ( nigritude ultramarine) to the top slot in a month using any trick.

The analysis of the winners makes interesting reading:-

The key thing we do is to first register by hand at www.dmoz.org , the directory that all search engines use.

anchor text is as important as ever. other important things are getting lots of links from different IPs, keyword density, SE friendly urls.

I know this is an old thread but I believe that there are some very helpful articles at http://www.deveshed.com may have to check devarticles but I know there were some that went in to depth about some old tricks that will get you blackballed by all the major search engines and how to keep from accidentally getting blackballed by not knowing that you broke there rules.
