Is MySQL 5 available yet? if not, why not and when will it be available? It has been out for a long time and it is starting to be required for some applications.

It is not available on any shared servers and it is only available on dedicated servers only. And also according to support "In future we will implement mysql-5 in shared server." but no date when.

I do share the same opinion as you here as MySQL 4 is starting to be phased out by some script writers and applications and it i starting to get a bit worrying that they aren't upgrading yet.

Hi

As of now you can signup any of our premium services at www.hostv.com and ask to switch and upgrade to MySQL-5 but for our shared servers mysql5 is in the horizon but due to some compatibility issues we won't be upgrading just yet for existing shared customers.

But definitely stay tuned!

Cheers

Any timetable for when this might occur? Its not like its a new version. MySQL 6 is already in development.

We're still doing further research and do not have a exact time frame for this but it is in the near future! :)

I believe without using stored procedures, performance decreases with version 5. Since a fraction of people here would bother rewriting queries, it would increase load, and it's already usually pretty strained.

You could upgrade just a few and get volunteers to sign up for those servers. Then those who need/ are able to use MySQL version 5 can and others don't suffer a performance hit.
